Learning objectives
- Define scope, out-of-scope items and a time box.
- Rank areas by risk using the published rules.
- Produce a test checklist that combines the techniques from earlier modules.
Explanation
Your product is the training shop in Bug Arena Practice. Its "Expected behaviour" panel is your specification. Practice runs entirely in your browser, so you can test freely; it is not a real shop and takes no real orders.
- Read the brief and expected behaviour. Note every rule and every question.
- Write the scope: catalogue and search, cart, promotion codes, delivery charges, checkout and confirmation, in English and Arabic. Out of scope: performance and security testing.
- Rank the areas by likelihood and impact (money and checkout usually come first).
- Build a checklist: partitions and boundaries for quantities and amounts, a decision table for discounts and delivery, required fields, and both languages.
- Set a time box — for example 90 minutes of testing.
Example: the start of a checklist
[ ] Catalogue: each category shows only its own products (EN, AR)
[ ] Search: English and Arabic names, case, surrounding spaces
[ ] Cart: quantity 1, 2, 9, 10; + disabled at 10, − disabled at 1
[ ] Cart: summary matches the lines after every change
[ ] Codes: SOUQ10 / WELCOME2, unknown code, lower case, spaces
[ ] Delivery: subtotal after discount just below, at, above the threshold
[ ] Checkout: each required field empty / spaces only / valid
[ ] Confirmation: order number, lines and totals match the cartCommon mistakes
- Starting to click before reading the specification.
- A checklist that only follows the happy path.
- Forgetting the second language.
Try
Practise what you just read. Answers are checked here; nothing is graded publicly or counts toward Bug Arena.
Exercise
Write your test plan in a few lines (scope, out of scope, top three risks, time box), then your checklist of at least 12 items. Keep it — you'll use it in part 2.
Write your answer first, then compare it with the sample solution. It stays on this page only and isn't sent anywhere.
Review
Check yourself — you should now be able to:
- Define scope, out-of-scope items and a time box.
- Rank areas by risk using the published rules.
- Produce a test checklist that combines the techniques from earlier modules.
